Below are some of the more frequently asked questions about the Ragdoll breed. Some of them are certainly myths while others hold true or are factual.

uestion: Who is Ann Baker?
nswer: Well, anyone who has started their research into Ragdolls has heard of Ann Baker. She was a breeder in California who first introduced the Ragdoll breed to us. She also made up her own association called "International Ragdoll Cat Association". To find out more view our Ragdoll history pages where you will find more details and pictures of Ann Baker.
uestion: Do Ragdolls have only blue eyes?
nswer: Not Really. Let's clarify that statement...all pointed varieties of the Ragdoll have blue eyes. Solid, mink & sepia Ragdolls may have eyes of a blue/green and green/cooper nature. Even odd colored eyes.
uestion: Some solid Ragdolls look like regular cats, how do I know it is a purebred Ragdoll?
nswer: Only registration papers are proof of a "real Ragdoll". No papers means even a gorgeous blue-eyed kitten could simply be Heinz 57 mongrel.
uestion: Why are Ragdolls called "Ragdolls"?
nswer: The name Ragdoll comes from the cats ability to become totally relaxed and limp like a child's toy ragdoll. This characteristic is true. It is even more prevalent in mature Ragdolls than in kittens.
uestion: What are some of the characteristics of the Ragdoll?
nswer: Ragdolls are by nature a relaxed, loving, docile cat. They love to have their bellies rubbed and sleep laying next to you. Ragdolls are very responsive and intelligent. They enjoy being with people and other pets, as they are very social. Many owners report they have little privacy since their Ragdolls follow them everywhere. The Ragdoll is simply an easy-going cat.
uestion: What is the life expectancy of the average Ragdoll?
nswer: With the proper care and attention, a Ragdoll is no different from any other cat. They can live anywhere from 15 to 25 years of age.
uestion: Can a Ragdoll kitten be trained similar to that of a dog?
nswer: YES. Many of our new owners have written back to us how their Ragdoll will walk on a leash, play fetch with a ball and beg for a treat. Since the Ragdoll likes to please its owners, almost anything may be possible especially if started at a young age.
uestion: Is the Ragdoll a "lap cat" ?
nswer: Well, some can be, but remember this is a BIG cat and at most times it will feel more comfortable at your side or your feet. That is not to say that a Ragdoll won't use you as a cushion.
uestion: I've heard that Ragdolls do not shed. Is that true?
nswer: NO. Ragdolls do shed, however, their coat is like rabbits' and sheds a lot less than other medium or long-haired cats. A regular grooming schedule of about once per week is recommended and enjoyed by most Ragdolls. Whereas other cats with long hairs it is a daily requirement.
uestion: Are all Ragdoll cats loving, calm and docile?
nswer: NO. Every kitten will have its own personality and there may be an aggressive type in any litter. However, this is not common and reputable breeders do breed for temperament that holds true to the Ragdoll breed. The first 12 weeks of a kitten's life shape its behavior later on in life. If the kitten is raised with its mother, other pets and a friendly atmosphere including regular human contact, the kitten should be well socialized.
uestion: I am having litter box problems, what can I do?
nswer: See the following article by Susan Little, D.V.M., Diplomat ABVD..Feline Practice  A Practical Approach To Feline Housesoiling
uestion: How can you tell if a Humane Society cat is a Ragdoll?
nswer: You can't. The only way to tell for sure that your cat is a true Ragdoll, is from its pedigree (registration papers) and checking the bloodline history. Looks and temperament alone does not classify a cat as a true Ragdoll.
uestion: What is a Ragamuffin? Is it like a Ragdoll?
nswer: One breed, two different names. After the original breeders under Ann Baker broke away from her, some of them decided to out-cross their cats to produce different colors and patterns from what was the Ragdoll. Today the Ragamuffin and Ragdoll have gone their separate ways, in terms of breeding.
uestion: Is it true that people affected by allergies will not be affected by the Ragdoll breed of cats?
nswer: FALSE. Allergies to cats does not come from the hair, rather it is found in cat Dander. Therefore if you have an allergy to cats, this will hold as true for the Ragdoll breed as it does for the hairless Sphynx.
uestion: Your kittens seem very expensive compared to other Ragdoll kittens, cross, and those unregistered, some advertised as low as $200 -- Why is that?
nswer: My kittens are the result of years of work, both of myself and the breeders that I purchased my stock from. I research my bloodlines and try to ensure that I am making the best genetic match possible, to create the best kittens possible. The wide variety of bloodlines ensures "genetic diversity" and genetic health.

I also provide optimum care for your kitten...whether this is their premium diet, premium natural litter, holistic care, vaccine protocol or time spent providing individual attention. In addition, I show my cats and kittens to maintain a standard of perfection as far as their looks go.

Continued research into health standards, genetics and so forth provide you and my kittens with the most recent information available.

My kittens are always registered. You see, registration only costs $10 per litter AS LONG AS THE PARENTS ARE REGISTERED. The only time that registration would cost "a lot of money" would be if the parents are not registered. Then, of course, you have to ask yourself…what is this person selling me???
