Solid
Ragdolls have been around since the beginning of the Ragdoll breed. As
a matter of fact, one of Josephine's daughters (Buckwheat) first litters produced 4 Ragdoll
kittens. These kittens were a solid black kitten named
Gueber (m), a solid black and
white mitted named Mitts (m), a chocolate color point (traditional Ragdoll
kitten) named Tiki (f) and a seal point mitted (another traditional kitten)
named Kyoto (m). Born in the summer of 1965.
ES,
solids are purebred, SBT (stud book traditional) and TICA registered Ragdolls.
We are
pleased to announce our first solid Ragdoll,
aptly named
"Aurora"...after the colorful Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis. Aurora
is a solid Ragdoll torbie and white bicolor who has an extremely
impressive pedigree. Aurora in her 5th generation shows the cattery of
Ann Baker; Raggedy Ann Dee Dee and in her 6th generation Aurora's
pedigree shows the original foundation Ragdolls...Raggedy Ann Kyoto
and Raggedy Ann Fugianna as well as Raggedy Ann Little Abner, Raggedy
Ann Candace, Raggedy Ann Kookie Tu and Raggedy Ann Deliah. To view her
full certified pedigree, you will find Aurora on our "Queens"
page of this website. We are also pleased to say that Aurora's
"solidness" comes directly from Josephine, whose daughter is Buckwheat
(black solid, similar to a Burmese) and her son Gueber, a solid black
kitten !!
Although
solid Ragdolls are not of a new breeding, many breeders do not have
the Solid Ragdoll as it is considered
by many to be "controversial".
However, having said this, the number of Ragdoll breeders opening
their hearts and minds to accepting
Solids and
Minks into their
breeding programs is rapidly increasing. RaggleRock is one such
cattery who has made it amongst other things, its duty to breed the
non-traditional Ragdoll kittens and thereby both continue these
wonderful lines (before they completely disappear) and help to promote Ragdolls of
various colors and patterns to the public. Solids and Minks can be
shown in some cat association shows in classes such as "new traits" or
"other variety" but as of yet, these beautiful, colorful Ragdolls have
not obtained championship status and can not compete for ribbons.
A
special feature found in the non-pointed Solid and
Mink Ragdolls is
that they can give birth to both pointed and non-pointed
Ragdoll
kittens in the same litter! This is due to the fact that the Solid and
Mink Ragdoll carry the gene for the pointed traditional variety of
Ragdoll. So as a breeder, one is always anticipating the birth of such
a litter. The traditional Ragdoll kittens are born completely white
(color on these kittens starts to come in after several days) while
the non-traditional Ragdoll kittens of the same litter are born with
full color.
So,
what color does a Solid Ragdoll come in, you ask? Solids can be seen
in black, blue, chocolate, lilac, white, red, cream, blue/cream and
calico/tortie. These colors also come in the
same patterns as the
"traditional" Ragdoll. That is colorpoint (having no white), mitted (white
mitts on front paws and boots on back legs with white chin and bib),
and bicolor (an inverted "V" on its face, white on all legs, chin and
bib). Any of these patterns and colors can also be marked with the
lynx in point (tabby markings), smoke, shaded or silver.
Eye
color between the traditional pointed variety, the Solid Ragdoll and
the Mink Ragdoll are also a distinguishing feature of each. In the
traditional Ragdoll kitten, the eye color is always blue. Whereas, the
Solid Ragdoll kitten has eyes of green, copper, blue, blue-green, or
even odd color eyes.
The Mink Ragdoll
has lovely aqua (blue-green) eye coloring.
At
RaggleRock, we do understand and appreciate that the non-pointed,
self-colored, solid Ragdoll variety is not for everyone. Each of you
will have a favorite color and pattern and we respect your choice of
Ragdoll. We, on-the-other-hand, are simply striving to provide you
with a choice of Ragdoll kittens, that very special Ragdoll kitten
which ultimately will win your heart forever !!
